Music Therapy

Music Therapy

When children are navigating their grief journey, it is essential to allow them the time, space, and creativity to express themselves in their unique way. Music Therapy is an established health profession in which music is used within a therapeutic relationship to address individuals' physical, emotional, cognitive, and social needs. At Rays of Hope, our Board Certified Music Therapist designs and implements goal-oriented music activities in most of our programs, including: Creative Wednesday, MAD Camp, Journey Camp, and HopeWorks. Students are encouraged to create, explore, and learn in a safe, non-judgmental space in both group and individual settings that will meet them in their level of ability. The music room boasts a piano, keyboard, guitars, ukuleles, and a wide variety of percussion instruments to help kids of all ages express and explore feelings that are often hard to put into words.

Rays of Hope Children Grief Center Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach out if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Rays of Hope utilizes peer support group environments led by compassionate adults who guide, listen and support children while they express their feelings and fears, sort through their confusion, and begin the healing process. None of the services provided by Rays of Hope are counseling or therapy sessions.

Rays of Hope Children’s Grief Center is an outreach of Hospice of Midland, a not-for-profit organization. Services provided and programs attended are free of charge.  All donations are greatly appreciated and are tax-deductible.

We work with children aged 4 to 18 years.

If you are interested in enrollment, please call (432) 684-KIDS, email information@raysofhopemidland.org, or visit us at 900 West Wall Street, Midland, Texas 79701. Referrals are not required.

Children who have experienced significant loss due to death, separation, divorce, incarceration, deployment, or foster care are encouraged to participate.

Tools of Expression (TOE) is a class using creative and expressive arts to encourage and promote healthy coping skills.

We do not work with kids one-on-one.  Children are in peer support groups.  We believe when children are placed with others their same age with similar circumstances they realize and understand they are not alone and have opportunities to create a meaningful bond.

Rays of Hope is located at 900 West Wall Street, Midland, Texas 79701.  Our building faces Wall Street between Avenue B and C. If you are new to Midland, or need further details, see map.

There are many volunteer opportunities at Rays of Hope, from general office duties, providing snacks, to facilitating peer groups. Volunteers who wish to work with children must complete a volunteer application packet and background check then attend Volunteer Training day.
